Electricity
At Australian Inflatable Decorations, your safety is our top priority. Inflatable decorations require electricity to operate, and it's important to take a few simple precautions to ensure a safe and stress-free experience. Follow our guide to keeping your festive display safe and sparkling!

Know your Plug Types
Our product supplier offers a varying amount of plug types and compliance standards. We understand this can be confusing so we have built a special page that will leave you in no doubt as to what you required when purchasing one of our electrical inflatables.

2. Use the Right Extension Leads
Only ever use outdoor-rated extension leads for your inflatables. Outdoor leads are specially designed to handle exposure to the elements and are much safer than indoor-only cables.
Check that the cable is in good condition, with no nicks, splits, or fraying.

3. Keep Connections Off the Ground
Moisture is the enemy when it comes to electrical connections. Always lift plugs and powerboards off the ground by:
- Mounting them on a brick or wooden block.
- Hanging them from a wall or sturdy post.
This helps prevent water pooling around your connections during rain or heavy dew.

4. Weatherproof Your Power
For added peace of mind, use waterproof covers over your plugs and sockets. Specialised outdoor plug covers or simple plastic shielding can keep your connections safe from rain, sprinklers, and splashes.

5. Use a Safety Switch (RCD)
We strongly recommend plugging all inflatables into a Residual Current Device (RCD), often called a safety switch. An RCD can quickly cut power if it detects a fault, reducing the risk of electric shock or fire.
Many outdoor powerboards come with built-in RCDs — it's a small investment for a big safety boost.

6. Protect Powerboards and Adaptors
If you're using a multi-plug adaptor or powerboard outdoors:
- Make sure it's rated for outdoor use.
- Protect it from the elements using weather shields.
- Never overload a board — check the maximum wattage and stick to it.
Running too many decorations off one small board can create heat and increase the risk of damage.

7. Check Equipment Regularly
Throughout the season, take a few minutes every week to check your extension leads, plugs, blowers, and lights:
- Look for signs of wear or damage.
- Ensure all connections are tight and dry.
- Replace any damaged cables immediately.
A quick inspection can save you a lot of trouble later.

8. Turn Off When Needed
If bad weather is forecast — especially thunderstorms — it’s best to turn off and unplug your inflatables until the storm has passed.
This protects your decorations, your electrics, and your home.
